My “Why”
Ever since I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 12, my own health journey has been anything but smooth sailing; I hit roadblocks, red lights and took many wrong turns along the way. I felt resentful of a disease and body that I perceived as working against me, and it wasn’t until long after my diagnosis that I felt ready to reclaim power over my health. Conventional medicine could only take me so far, and I knew I needed tools beyond an insulin prescription and the occasional carb-counting seminar.
My naturopathic medical education truly changed the course of my life. I applied to myself many of the therapies I was learning, and realized profound changes in my mental and physical health. Experience has been the best teacher and equally my strongest motivator to become a naturopathic doctor. I am enthusiastic about educating my patients about diet, exercise and supplementation, particularly as they apply to optimal blood sugar support; more importantly, I want to support my patients to confidently make changes that fit comfortably into their everyday lives. I’m a firm believer in the superior combination of conventional and naturopathic medicine, and continually strive to provide my patients with the best possible up-to-date care.
Clinical Focus
Personal and clinical experience has nurtured my passion for treating those living with diabetes and/or conditions relating to insulin resistance, including:
- diabetes – types I and II and gestational
- infertility
- polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- weight loss resistance (trouble losing weight)
- metabolic syndrome (obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol)
I employ a variety of therapies including nutrition and lifestyle counselling, exercise, botanical medicine and acupuncture to help my patients attain that perfect balance – in blood sugars and in life.
We’re in this together!
As a naturopathic doctor, I am grateful for the amount of time I get to spend with each and every patient. This time permits me the opportunity to truly understand and get to the root cause of your unique concerns. A thorough intake and physical exam is generally performed at your first visit, and additional blood work or hormone panels may be necessary to ensure we get the complete picture.
At our next visit, we will jointly comb through your health story and results, identify potential patterns of imbalance and triggers for disease, and create a treatment plan customized to you and your best health. How often we see each other depends entirely upon your concern and your individual treatment plan, but remember – optimal health is a lifelong journey! It may not be a quick fix, but keep in mind that we’re in this together. I’m here to teach, support and cheerlead all along the way, whatever that uniquely means for you.
Let’s get started!
