Vitamin D Supplementation is Depressed Adolescents with Vitamin D deficiency
Fifty-four Swedish depressed adolescents serum 25OH vitamin D levels were analyzed. The vitamin D deficient individuals were given vitamin D3 for 3 months. The mean 25OH D levels were 41nmol/L at baseline and 91nmol/L after supplementation. After supplementation well being increased and there was significant improvement in 7 of the 9 items in the Vitamin D deficiency scale: depressed feeling, irritability, tiredness, mood swings, sleep difficulties, weakness, ability to concentrate and pain. According to the Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (MFQ-S) there was a significant amelioration of depression.

Depressed adolescents in a case-series were low in vitamin D and depression was ameliorated by vitamin D supplementation.
